This time of year is one of my favorites; beautiful weather, able to get outside with the kids and camp, fresh air and a bright sun. High School and College graduations are also happening this time of year. That brings some great memories, but also some painful mistakes with finances that I made. If you could go back to when you were first entering your full-time job, what is the number one thing you would change? Odds are you answered your spending and investing; same here.
Personally, we spent waayyyy too much money on junk that we just didn’t need. Right after college we lived close to Columbia, so we spent an obscene amount of money on eating out and craft beer. Overspending on non-essentials is the number one financial trap that people fall into and once you do, it’s insanely hard to break out of. “Keeping up with the Jones’s” will tear your life apart and leave you with nothing but some fancy junk that you don’t use. I ask a lot of people, if you knew then what you know now about finances, how would that change your life now? I sure as heck wouldn’t be spending January in Missouri, that’s for sure. If you could give yourself that financial education, you’d be able to create something so substantial that it changes your family for generations to come. You’d be able to create Generational Wealth.
That’s what my focus is for this business, to teach young people how easy personal finance can be and the need to learn it as soon as humanly possible. My Hourly Consulting option is exactly what that is for. I didn’t know this stuff right out of college. All anyone ever told me was to save your money, and most told me in a savings account. No one actually taught me why savings was important or why it needed to be in the stock market. When I went through benefits elections at my first job, I asked the HR lady helping me how much I should be putting into my 401k.
Fresh out of college I thought I was invincible and could do nothing wrong. I didn’t care if I wasted all of my money, because I was having fun. It would’ve taken a lot to open my eyes to the importance of this, but that’s what I am trying to do now because it’s so important. I needed someone to take me through the choices that come with handling your own personal finances. What is a 401K? What is life insurance? Should I buy a new car? How do I save money to buy a house? Questions that every single one of us had either had to figure out on our own by learning from our mistakes or been blessed enough to have someone to show you the ropes. My goal is to wake people up to the importance of this and guide them through doing it yourself, so you have that knowledge base for the rest of their lives.
We’ve all heard stories of people with a crazy amount of money, and they’ve turn around and blown it. Mike Tyson, Nicolas Cage, heck most lottery winners and countless other celebrities. They all have had more money than most of us will ever see in our lives and blew it down the drain because they didn’t know how to deal with it. Now I want to put something as clear as possible, you CANNOT afford to make the same mistakes as they did. They had millions upon millions of dollars to mess up with either due to insane luck or God given abilities. You (probably) don’t have either.
You need to be taking full, 100% advantage of your current income and the money you have now. If you don’t know what you’re doing with every dollar you have, you need to learn and be in control of all of it. We all made mistakes with our money in the past, but you have got to change that starting now. EDUCATE yourself on your personal finances.
Developing Generational Wealth starts with education. Learning to do this stuff is not easy, if it were we’d all be millionaires. That’s why I am here and that’s what I am building my business on. Teaching you how to be self-sufficient in your personal finances. Giving you the power to make smart decisions by giving you the knowledge base to support them.
With that said, here is my Hourly Service Calendar. This is the guideline I go through with young, newly graduated, or fresh into the workforce people. Stuff that I needed someone to go through with me. I anticipate working in person or via Zoom one hour per month to get these lined out. Situations do vary and more time may be needed.

Education is so key to your long-term financial success. I know no one wants to go back to learning after you just graduated, but it’s absolutely essential that you do. (Would you do it if I gave you a million dollars?) Give yourself peace of mind and set yourself up for a bright future by learning how to handle your personal finances. Or better yet, give this gift to someone graduating this year and change their lives forever.
